It’s the beginning of the final battle to save Gotham City in Batman #84. Bane is out of the picture, but Bruce must face his father from another dimension to end the madness in City of Bane Part 10. Thomas wants Bruce to give up the cap and cowl and marry Selina. But Bruce has determined that he can be Batman and be happy. Still reeling from his loss, Bruce will have to focus if he wants to put an end to Thomas.
BatmanĀ # 84
This was entirely a recap issue for the entire story. We do start off in the present, but the rest of the issue is all flash back. Until the last page where we’re back with Thomas and Bruce face to face. One of my biggest complaints with this series has been the slow pace at times and filler issues. This particular issue is an example of just that. It just retells the story of how we got to where we are and why the characters are the way they are.
I think this is a product of the publisher pushing its biggest characters to bi-monthly. I could be wrong but I think if they just stuck to monthly with occasional crossovers and events, readers would not be happy with filler issues and slow plot movement. But after the next issue, Batman goes back to monthly with a different writer. So with just one more issue in King’s run and a new writer coming in, I’ll stick with Batman for at least a while longer.
