It part 9 of City of Bane in Batman #83. Batman and Catwoman have taken on Bane, but now they must face the real evil behind the whole thing. And if they fail, Gotham will be forever lost. But after Batman was shot in the last issue, how will he ever take on his father for control of the city. Plus the Bat-Family has all been subdued. It is going to take a miracle to save Gotham.
Without getting into any spoilers yet, I’m going to just say I was not a huge fan of this issue. I’ll explain more about why below but there are going to be spoilers in case you don’t want to know too much about this issue. The are was amazing. And the story really wasn’t that bad. Its just that the timing of this issue is so odd. There is no resolution for the previous issue. There’s just an apparent small gap in time and the previous cliff hanger isn’t even addressed. I still thing the end of King’s run can still be epic. But I would have liked this story told a little earlier.

Batman #83 – Major Spoilers
So in this issue we finally get to grieve the loss of Alfred. That’s what I mean by timing of the issue. I really think its an awesome tribute to Alfred as Bruce finds out his true fate. But Alfred actually died several issues ago. And it really wasn’t talked about at all. So when Batman revealed earlier that Alfred signaled he was safe, I thought maybe they had played Bane in some way. But now we know why he signaled Bruce and that he is truly dead. And then there’s not even the mention of Thomas shooting Bruce and Bane.
Apparently, Thomas had bricked Bruce up in the room with Alfred to make him grieve and understand that Thomas had won. But after he has let his emotions out, Thomas opens up the bricks and let him out. Unfortunately for Thomas Batman is not going to just stop and leave Gotham in the hands of a madman. So the challenge is on for Thomas and Bruce to face off one on one.
