Sunnydale is sinking into the Hellmouth while Buffy and Angel are inside trying to close it in Buffy the Vampire Slayer #9. With Buffy gone, the rest of the gang are trying to make due and hold everything together. Willow is still not herself since saving Xander. Jenny and Giles are not speaking because of what he did at the museum. Buffy and Angel have to hurry before Sunnydale collapses into Hell.
This was definitely not my favorite issue. With everything going on, there just didn’t seem to be much action in the whole issue. I’m also not the biggest fan of David Lopez’s art. I understand that they have a lot of story to fill with the separate Hellmouth issues and even Angel’s series. But there just wasn’t a ton going on here. Also, Willow and Xander were kind of my favorites from the show. I’m not really digging them here. But it’s still Buffy and one “OK” issue won’t deter me from sticking with the series. Bellaire has done a pretty good job otherwise of setting up the new Buffyverse.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer #9
The beginning part of the issue has some inner dialogue from Buffy’s mom. It’s a little far fetched that she thinks Buffy is actually on a field trip after what has happened. Then Willow is still struggling with half of her soul missing. There may also be an side effect going on with her intelligence. It could just be that she really didn’t know art history.
Xander is trying to do business as usual but Giles is freaking out. He and Jenny haven’t spoken since the museum. He’s also feverish and sweating which is weird. Xander does patrol and faces a random vampire. He warns Xander that the demon in him will eventually win. But who knows if that random vampire knows anything about half humans.

from: Things From Another World
The only real revelation comes at the end. A strange girl is dropped off in Sunnydale. And of all places she ends up a Robin’s house. Apparently he is a watcher. So does that make her a Slayer? But what Counsel is he working for? Especially if Giles doesn’t know him.
