So after months of playing with everyone’s emotions, Sony and Disney announce that Spider-Man will remain in the MCU. This announcement came Friday morning, September 27th, with both companies making separate statements. Of course I was driving 11 hours to Florida on that day so I’m just getting caught up now. At least we know the the third installment of this trilogy will continue the MCU story.
Spider-Man Back In The MCU
I’m not able to find many details about the new deal as of yet. But we know that this not yet titled Spider-Man movie will be released on July 16, 2021. This puts the movie just after the release of Doctor Strange in May. Also, Deadline reports that Spider-Man will appear in another MCU movie after the third solo movie.
Also from Deadline, the price to keep Spider-Man was 25% financing cost for Disney. This is definitely better for Disney than the 50% Sony originally asked for. In exchange, Disney will get 25% equity stake. Amy Pascal will produce the film as she did with the first two. This is all good news for fans of the MCU and Spider-Man.
