The credits include Joshua Williamson and Howard Porter writing and drawing the issues. The coloring is done by Hi-Fi. Being that I just recently got back into reading comics, this whole Year One story arc had me all confused. But this has been a really good revisiting of the origins of the Flash. And, from what I understand, this is the third part of a four part interlude to the main story. It doesn’t help at all that I started reading the Flash at issue 50 either. This was a really fun issue and I’m anxious to see the conclusion.
In Chapter three of the Year One story arc, we pick up where we left Barry. He’s about to face off against the Turtle in an effort to change the future he saw shortly after gaining his powers. I like how Williamson wrote the Turtle dialogue in choppy, one… word… sentences… Not only is Turtle an evil super villain, he’s super annoying to listen to. Barry defeats the Turtle by accidentally vibrating into a brick wall and exploding it.
Once he realizes his defeat, Turtle says an interesting statement, “that wasn’t supposed to happen”. He says it much slower than that, but what does it mean?Does he know about a different outcome? Can Turtle time travel as well? Am I reading too much into this? Probably. Another interesting point during the battle has Turtle telling Barry he’s like him. This could mean he knows about the Speed and Still forces already. That could feed back into the Force Quest Barry was on before this origin interlude.
After Turtle is off to Iron Heights, Barry and Iris actually get to go on their date. Barry has now realized that he can help people, maintain his relationship with Iris and balance work while enjoying every second of all of it. He continues to work on honing his powers while Iris follows a lead on a murder story. Barry does his CSI work on the same case and they are both lead to Clive Yorkin. Iris confronts the dangerous career criminal, who is currently working with Leonard Snart. Flash arrives in time to save everyone as Yorkin opens fire on Iris and other bystanders, but is struck by a bullet himself. Will the Flash’s speed healing save him?
