Boom Studios is really knocking it out of the park for me lately. The more you read from me the more you’ll get to know that, while I love a good superhero comic, Sci-Fi and Horror are really where my heart is. This issue is written by Greg Pak, drawn by Giannis Milonogiannis and colored by Irma Kniivila. This is a series I picked up just because I saw it on the shelf when issue 1 came out. It has not failed to impress with each issue. Everything is beautifully drawn from the backdrops to the characters. The monsters are terrifying and there are samurai to go along with all that.
This issue goes right for the feels as we get to the bottom of the origin of the fungus zombies they call Byonin. I don’t think you can have a zombie series without some big character deaths and we get our first here in issue #4. Along with that gut punch, we find out the cause of this terrible outbreak and it’s not at all what I was expecting. This issue absolutely blew me away with the pace and the revelations. It just makes me even more eager to find out how our samurai are going to move forward. Together in strength.
