The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening

On September 20th, 2019, Nintendo will release it’s remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening on the Switch. I fondly remember playing the original after its release. It’s hard to say if it is one of the best Zelda games, because I really almost loved them all. The only game I wasn’t a huge fan of was Adventures of Link. This remake has had me excited to play since it’s announcement.

But not only will I get to re-experience an awesome game from my childhood, I’ll get to share that experience with my son. One of my favorite things about playing games when I was young was getting together with my cousins and family and we would watch each other play, giving tips and experiencing it together. I can’t wait to do this with Christopher. Watch the gameplay video from Quest Mode as he breaks down what he saw in his short play-through. Give him a like and subscribe while you’re there.

One of the biggest things in the upgrade from the original is the new graphics. Nintento had given the entire game a 3D look that wasn’t possible back when the game first came out. As Quest Mode points out, the music is also given an awesome update. You can see also in the video that the world map is updated to a cool hand drawn sketch of the areas you haven’t visited yet. The game itself is a complete remake. You experience the same over-world and dungeons that the original had, just with the new technology. The inventory system is revamped to allow the use of more than two items at a time.

Plus the game added a dungeon maker where you have specific objectives to build and play your own dungeon. This is a very condensed version of a Mario Maker type experience. The rooms you’re allowed to make are exact copies of rooms you played in the main game. And you are limited in how you can use them. But once you’ve completed the objectives, you can play through your dungeon and invite friends to beat your time. I can’t wait to try this out and maybe play some of your dungeons.
